B. Jul 20 1897 Wloclawek, d. Aug 1 1996. Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1950 (joint winner). Collaborated with E. C. Kendall and P. S. Hench in their work on the hormones of the adrenal cortex which culminated in the isolation of cortisone and the discovery of its therapeutic value in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Son of Isidor Reichsten & Gustava Brockmann. Swiss chemist, professor at University of Basel and Director of Institute of Organic Chemistry, Switzerland; studied artificial synthesis of Vitamin C & fern classification. Married Henriette Louise Quarles van Ufford, of Dutch nobility, in 1927. Tadeus lived to 99 & survived the death of his four brothers, wife & one daughter.
